More Power and Cost Savings with the New Hyundai i10

Distinctive and stylish from every angle, the new i10 (1.25l Kappa) brings excitement to the driving experience of this powerful compact car. The new i10 (1.25l Kappa) Kappa is the new engine variant of the i10. The i10 (1.25l Kappa) boasts of an all-new engine with the first in its class 16-valve DOHC and an all aluminum engine that offers a perfect blend of both power and fuel economy. This futuristic engine is more environmentally friendly as there’s significant reduction in the NVH (Noise, Vibration, Harshness) and it also meets with the stringent Euro4 emission regulations. In addition, the new tilted engine design reduces bonnet height and lowers the centre of gravity for improved vehicle aerodynamics and stability.

The new i10 is the first Hyundai engine to use a single accessories drive belt without a tensioner mechanism resulting in a quieter run, lower cost, and maintenance free till 160,000km. Timing chain used allows drivers to reduce maintenance costs. New developments such as the offset crankshafts, reverse intake and exhaust manifolds, long reach spark plugs and the beehive valve spring contribute towards reduced fuel consumption. Hyundai Motor Company also use the ECOFORM® pistons (similar to pistons used in the V8 Tau engine for the Hyundai Genesis and Equus) for the 1.25 kappa engine which reduces the weight of the pistons. Other contributing factors towards efficient fuel consumption include weight reduction through the use of advanced plastic parts such as the intake manifold and engine valve cover.

Just like the i10 (1.1l epsilon) variant, the 1.25l kappa i10 also employs the use of a motor driven power steering (MDPS) or Electric power steering (EPS) which requires less parts and makes less demand on the engine power, giving better fuel efficiency during long distance highway drives. The system is also maintenance free which reduces maintenance costs as it does not require any power steering fluid. The use of MDPS or EPS is unique in the A segment vehicle in Malaysia and is not available to any of its competitors.
