Used 2004 Chevrolet Aveo Review

The Chevrolet brand is back in business in Malaysia with a new partner, Pavilion Crest (aka Naza Group) and a new sedan, the Cruze. This means its car models might just see a revival of values in the used car market. At launch the Chevrolet Aveo was the toast of dealers nationwide with its smart looks, decent handling and good economy. It also sold on great interest rates and a hard to avoid price. The Aveo today after 5-6 years on the road sells for a price that makes it interesting enough for buyers looking for bargain to walk in and have a look. A 6 year old unit of reasonable condition can be yours for between RM23,000 to RM28,000. This is a depreciation of some 60% in six years. Good savings for a first time buyer and the possibility of less loses in consequent years of ownership.

With still a strong dealer support network buying a second-hand Chevrolet could still be a wise move as you will still be getting a genuine bargain because parts, service and support will and should remain strong in years to come. The Aveo was available only as a 5 door hatchback with a 1.5-litre four-cylinder engine delivering 62kW mated to a four-speed automatic. A used 6-year-old Aveo is tempting buy as its stoutly made and exceptional value. It was also reasonably comfortable, generously proportioned for its price and quite well equipped and while the driving experience is not something that enthusiasts will appreciate however it does everything adequately well, with quite reasonable power and safe, competent handling.

When making a final decision to buy a used Aveo make sure you get a service history of the car from the dealer because these cars can age fast when not taken car of and in the hands of silly owners. Driver abuse is easily noticed with the evidence of squeaks, rattles, noisy suspension components, spongy brakes and more than acceptable free-play in the steering during a brief test drive which should include going over speed bumps and pot holes. Check tyre wear, the operation the gear change as you move into drive, neutral and reverse. Any roughness or noisiness signals danger, as does rough idling. Sluggishness in automatic shifting is a danger sign and should be immediately avoided. Check oil for sludging. Check for fluid leaks. Lift the dipstick and check the condition of the oil and also check the condition of the spark plugs to se if the engine has been worked hard. Make sure you check the interior front and rear as many were bought by people with young families and the upholstery marks easily, check the rear seat area carefully. Damage and rattles is likely a sign of owner abuse. Check the service record carefully because, as with lots of compact family cars, many owners skimp on servicing. If the service book isn’t complete have the car professionally checked by a mechanic that you trust.
