Volkswagen signs agreement to CKD vehicles in Malaysia

Kuala Lumpur, December 21, 2010 – The Volkswagen Group is gradually expanding its activities in Southeast Asia under its Strategy 2018 growth program. Christian Klingler, Member of the Board of Management of Volkswagen Aktiengesellschaft, and representatives from the partner company DRB-HICOM Berhad. This CKD project will start with the latest Passat and Jetta sedan in the end of 2011. Then the Polo sedan will start assembly and we predict the Touran and VW’s first commercial pickup, the Amarok will be assembled in Pekan for the region.

CKD assembly will have an initial annual capacity of several thousand vehicles and will be successively increased. The Volkswagen Group signed a memorandum of understating to investigate local vehicle production
with the Malaysian partner DRB-HICOM Berhad back in August 2010.

CKD models to be locally assembled will not be the models which are currently offered in Malaysia (Golf TSI, GTI, Scirocco TSI, GT, Passat CC, Touareg, Tiguan, Beetle and Polo TSI).
