Infiniti G37 Is Safety Car For Spanish Rally 2011

Infiniti’s push into performance-tuned luxury vehicles began with the debut of its G37 last year. Now, the Japanese automaker’s latest venture is its new safety car for the 2011 Spanish Rally season.

Earlier this year, Infiniti forged a relationship with the Red Bull F1 team by inking a two-year sponsorship deal. Infiniti will not only gain global exposure under the deal, but also improve its credibility the performance luxury market. With the worldwide racing recognition under control, Infiniti has turned its focus to more localized markets.
The luxury brand’s latest racing venture involves a partnership with the Royal Spanish Motorsport Federation. Under the deal, Infiniti will provide the official safety car for the 2011 Spanish rally season. Based around a 2011 G37 S coupe, the safety car wears a light bar on its roof, quartet of driving lamps on its hood, and a red and yellow paint scheme signifying its role. Handling improvements come courtesy of Bilstein shock absorbers and high performance Michelin tires, braking improvements are come in the form of upgraded pads and fluid from Galfer. Inside, a full roll cage protects the occupants, while Sparco buckets and belts keep them firmly planted. Power comes from the stock 3.7-liter V-6 mill, which sends 320 horsepower and 270 pound-feet of torque through a six-speed manual transmission to the rear wheels.

The safety car made its debut at the Villajoyosa Rally on April 1st, and will continue to serve for the remainder of the season; World TT champion Marc Blázquez will pilot the car.
