Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 Flying High With Auto Express Tire Test 2011 Win

Goodyear is flying high after Auto Express its Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2, as the number one tire in its recent Auto Express Big Tyre Test 2011. The ultimate performance tire for luxury sports performance vehicles also received a “Best Buy 2011” endorsement from the publication. No stranger to awards, the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric line has a history in winning best in class awards.

The Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 tire was officially launched, in Asia, three months ago in Hua Hin, Thailand at the Kaeng Krachan Circuit to media from around the region. There they were given a preview of its performance and precision handling.  Coming off this regional launch, Goodyear announced the rollout of the Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 in Malaysia at an exclusive event with the aim of conveying the driving pleasure the product brings drivers. Hosted at the Proton Test Track in Shah Alam, the event attracted performance based car enthusiasts who were introduced to the features of the tires through a full product training that was further complemented with a track test using high performance cars.
Commenting on the global win, Zakariah Ahmad, Managing Director, Goodyear Malaysia Berhad said, “Goodyear Malaysia holds innovation at the core of everything we do and we are proud to receive such a win for our latest innovation – the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2. The demand for an ultra high performance tires is present in the Malaysian market and Goodyear is proud to deliver on it. At Goodyear, we are committed to producing quality performance tires that meet a wide range of needs, be it ultra performance, everyday motoring or for commercial applications.”
Auto Express tested ten leading tire brands at Bridgestone’s test facility in Aprilia, south of Rome. Each tire manufacturer sent 10 tires for test, eight to be used for track testing and two for rolling resistance. Fitted onto the popular Volkswagen Golf GTI, they tested the tires on nine disciplines including wet and dry braking, handling and cornering, straight and curved aquaplaning, rolling resistance and noise. The magazine also bought two sets at random and compared them to the supplied rubber on the wet braking strip on the top-selling manufacturers.
Auto Express looked for the best overall tire and Goodyear ranked highly in the majority of areas. The Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 went up against nine other competitors particularly in the wet and the dry weather conditions. What impressed Auto Express the most was Goodyear’s ability in the dry weather conditions – while it’s expected that Goodyear does well in the wet, its ability in the dry was a surprise. The overall verdict was that the Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 was an impressive all-rounder and an excellent choice for any conditions.
This is yet another win for Goodyear’s portfolio this year after winning the original equipment fitment on the exclusive high performance Mercedes-Benz CLS four-door coupe with the new tire. Firdaus Asri, member of the VAGMY (Volkswagen AG Malaysia) car club said that “The Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 provides easy handling and offers the driver a good grip, suitable for all weather conditions. It performs reasonably well on a rear wheel drive and provides good overall steering feel. One of my criteria’s when selecting a tire is its featured performance and the grip. I’m happy to say that the Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 has met all my needs and is definitely a good ultra high performance tire I would support”.
The Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 is available in 17” – 20” and ranges from RM535 to RM1,710. For more information about Goodyear and its products, go to www.goodyear.com.my .
