Tata Indica EV To Compete With Mitsubishi i-MiEV

Tata Group and France’s Dassault Systemes have plans to launch a new electric car at a selling price of less than USD20,000. Tata Technologies had already presented the eMO electric car concept at the 2012 Detroit Motor Show, with an innovative interior design, with foldable rear seats and the ability to comfortably seat 4 adults and luggage. This means that the car will resemble Tata Motors’ own Indica EV compact car, and not the compact Nano. No information was given on the car’s electric motor and the power, nor on when the car will be released or how much the company invests in the project.

With Tata’s wide research base and new high-tech approach to production they might be able to produce an EV car with longer range and faster charge time. If Tata will succeed with this plan, the eMO would be the world’s least priced all-electric car, with a selling price of USD10,000 lower than the Nissan Leaf and near the selling price of the Mitsubishi i-MiEV.
