The Otomotif College (TOC), the pioneer in professional automotive education in Malaysia, has sealed a sponsorship deal with the country’s largest custom and private grease manufacturer, TOYO Lubrication (M) Sdn Bhd.

The three-year sponsorship worth approximately RM500,000 will see TOYO Lubrication, the first grease and lubricant manufacturer in Malaysia to be certified by the United States-based National Lubricating Grease Institute (NLGI), play a key role in enhancing the knowledge of lubricants among TOC trainers and students by sharing technical information and providing input into TOC’s syllabus.

Under the terms of the memorandum of understanding, TOYO Lubrication will provide a complete range of its products such as engine oil, degreaser, coolant, greases, gear oil, and transmission, brake and power steering fluids to be used at TOC’s training workshops.

TOC’s Motorsport Team is also set to benefit greatly from the sponsorship.  TOYO Lubrication will supply the team with high performance engine and gear oils, high temperature constant velocity joint and wheel bearing greases, brake fluids and engine coolant.

The team’s Proton Satria Neo R3 used TOYO Lubrication’s engine oil for the first time, specifically the Titanium 8000 15W-40 semi-synthetic oil, last year and posted its best-ever result.  From failing to finish in previous races, it finished a credible seventh out of 28 teams at the 2013 Sepang 1000KM (S1K) Endurance Race.  TOC Motorsport Team also finished seventh out of 22 teams at the recently concluded Malaysian Super Series Round 1 at Sepang,

TOYO Lubrication will also sponsor new equipment for TOC’s training workshops such as transparent engine simulator, coolant and brake fluid tester and lubricant bay equipment such as engine oil flushing machine, oil collector and washing bay.

TOC Chief Executive Officer Adelaine Foo said that the college was always looking for partners who share its aim of developing a new generation of automotive professionals who are mobile and employable.

“We are delighted to welcome TOYO Lubrication as a partner.  As two home-grown brands that have managed to succeed despite the odds, we share a similar vision and values, in particular, a steadfast commitment to quality. TOC has been providing world-class automotive education for a decade now while TOYO Lubrication has been producing top quality, world-class products for the past 18 years.  We know that for a fact as TOC Motorsport Team used TOYO Lubrication’s engine oil for the first time last year and recorded our best achievement ever,” she said.

TOYO Lubrication Business Development Director Albrert Chin said that the company, which has been contract-manufacturing lubricants and greases for established international brands since 1997, was looking forward to playing its part in equipping a new generation of automotive technicians with a better understanding of lubricants and greases.

“There are still many misconceptions about lubricants out there and many consumers and even mechanics do not know the basics of choosing the right lubricant for their cars.  We hope to impart the technical expertise that we have developed over the years to TOC trainers and students,” he said.

Established in 2004, TOC’s industry-relevant and technologically up-to-date curriculum, coupled with an extensive practical training and internship programme, is designed to produce well-rounded graduates equipped with not just internationally-recognised diplomas, but real world experience.

For the past decade, TOC has established itself as the best-run automotive college in Malaysia.  It is rated five-star by MyQuest 2012/13 and the Ministry of Human Resources. It is also recognised as a five-star Malaysian Skills Certificate training provider by the Department of Skills Development (JPK).

TOC has been accorded premier status accreditation by Accreditation Services for International Colleges (ASIC), a recognition given to only five per cent of the world’s automotive education institutions.

It is also accredited with the Ministry of Education (MoE), Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA), Ministry of Human Resources (MoHR), Department of Skills Development (JPK), Training and Employment Recognition Council, Queensland Government, Australia, and United Kingdom’s Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI) and City and Guilds International. For more information on TOC, please visit www.toc.edu.my
