0Mazda Rotary Confirmed For Next RX Sportscar
A new report has emerged online that claims confirmation from Mazda insiders that say they are working on a new sports car powered by a rotary engine that will succeed the RX-7 and RX-8.
Set to arrive in 2017, the next-generation RX-7 will arrive just in time to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the launch of the Cosmo Sport (pictured below), which was Mazda’s first model using a Wankel rotary engine.
The Mazda RX-8 was not the most fuel-efficient sports car and needed lots of oil too, but this problem seems to be solved with the new ‘SkyActiv’ technology. Also confirmed was that the next-generation Mazda RX-8 will arrive as a coupe and will not feature four-doors like the current model. Also, it will be more powerful with as much as 300 hp, delivered to the rear wheels. The engine will be bolted to a six-speed manual or an automatic transmission. Furthermore, the next-gen Mazda RX-8 is expected to be lighter than its predecessor.
