All-New Hongqi H7 PHEV Targets Guinness World Record For Longest Single-Tank Hybrid Drive

Hongqi is coming to Malaysia by way of Quill and there’s now a lot of interest around affordable Chinese PHEVs. The latest Hongqi H7 PHEV is not YET on the list of cars that are confirmed for our market but it’s in the news today for wanting to set an official Guiness World Record.

FAW Hongqi has officially commenced a Guinness World Records challenge with its all-new Hongqi H7 plug-in hybrid sedan, targeting the world record for the longest continuous distance driven by a mass-production plug-in hybrid sedan on a single tank of fuel and a single full battery charge without any external replenishment.

The real-world endurance challenge spans three major provinces—Yunnan, Guangxi, and Guangdong—and is being conducted entirely under standard production vehicle operating parameters on public roads, bypassing controlled test tracks or simulated laboratory environments.

Along the route, the executive sedan will tackle severe real-world challenges, including sweltering summer temperatures, heavy rain, extended steep mountain ascents across the Yunnan-Guizhou plateau, and unpredictable urban traffic gridlock.

Pre-Sale Pricing and Variant Breakdown

The all-new Hongqi H7 PHEV opened for pre-orders in August, offering three distinct specifications tailored for luxury touring and all-weather traction:

  • 180 Intelligent Hybrid: Pre-sale price of RMB 191,800 (approx. USD 26,500), with a limited-time introductory launch price of RMB 181,800.
  • 240 Intelligent Hybrid: Pre-sale price of RMB 206,800, available with an introductory launch offer of RMB 196,800.
  • 210 AWD Intelligent Hybrid: Pre-sale price of RMB 231,800, dropping to an introductory offer of RMB 221,800.

Honghu Hybrid System: 1,954 km Range and 4.4 L/100 km Economy

At the mechanical core of the H7 PHEV is FAW’s proprietary Honghu Hybrid System, combining high-efficiency thermal combustion management with responsive electric drive units:

  • Long-Distance Combined Range: Delivers a theoretical combined driving range of up to 1,954 km on a full tank of petrol and a fully charged battery pack.
  • CLTC Pure Electric Range: Offers up to 240 km of pure electric propulsion, providing sufficient battery capacity to handle several days of local urban commuting without starting the petrol engine.
  • Charge-Depleting Fuel Efficiency: Under WLTC cycle conditions, fuel consumption in charge-depleting (battery-exhausted) mode is rated at just 4.4 L/100 km, significantly reducing running costs over cross-country journeys.

Executive Proportions and High-Output All-Wheel Drive

Designed to deliver executive highway presence, the all-new H7 PHEV measures 5,060 mm in length, 1,910 mm in width, and 1,480 mm in height, resting on an extended 2,970 mm wheelbase that maximizes rear passenger legroom.

For performance enthusiasts, the flagship 210 AWD Intelligent Hybrid variant pairs dual electric motors with the hybrid combustion unit to produce:

  • System Output: A massive combined output of 479 kW (642 hp) and 871 Nm of torque, delivering rapid overtaking response at highway speeds.
  • Braking Performance: Equipped with high-friction multi-piston braking hardware that achieves a 100 to 0 km/h emergency stopping distance in 35.8 metres.

By subjecting the H7 PHEV to grueling, unassisted public road conditions spanning thousands of kilometers, FAW Hongqi aims to validate the real-world thermal management, energy recapture efficiency, and long-range durability of its next-generation Honghu hybrid architecture.
