Here comes a strong statement from Malaysia’s No.1 compact car producer. Perodua targets to sell and register an impressive 1 Million Myvi’s by 2017. This iconic compact car is Malaysia’s most popular and best-selling car and to date 850,000 units (20% of total car passenger sales in Malaysia) have already been sold and being used by happy owners. Launched in May 2005 it was initially targeted to be a niche vehicle however it quickly became a hot seller with single people, small families and retirees.

For its 10th anniversary the Myvi continues to be a popular seller despite new exciting models being introduced by Perodua like the Alza and the current best seller, the Axia. With this latest variant, the Myvi has now seen 10 variants since its launch. The Myvi still gets an average of 7,000 bookings in a month for the past 4 months.

The best selling compact car in Malaysia has been a firm favorite with Malaysians from all walks of life since its introduction some 10 years ago and even with so many competitors coming into the segment, the Myvi still commands strong desire with Malaysians looking for a decent well designed reliable compact car.

Meanwhile Perodua management confirmed that the all new Perodua compact sedan is in progress and the car should be in local showrooms in the next 24 months. The all new car has already passed research and development stage and now it is undergoing engine and drivetrain works.

Looking at the export market, Perodua management shared with attending media that Perodua has plans to reopen its export market strategy. The export market for Perodua stalled the last 3 years due to market conditions and changes in local tax structures in the most popular export markets like Sri Lanka and Indonesia. For the Indonesian market, the exact same product from the Rawang factory is sent to Indonesia with only changes to badges and front grille. The Axia will be the next car to start being exported. New markets that are being explored are Fiji and a few neighbouring ASEAN nations.

Residual values for older Myvi’s have been very good and the used car market loves the Myvi as its turn around time is fast and produces good profit for dealers.
