Picture Of The Day_BMW E28 M5_The Original Super Sedan
Launched at the 1985 Amsterdam Motor Show the E28 M5 was the fastest production saloon car of its time. Lurking under the bonnet and disguised by its subtle looks was the mighty M88 engine, a modified unit from the BMW M1 and the same engine BMW used in the M6s of the era. The straight 6-cylinder 3453cc engine produces 282bhp and is good for the 0-100km/h run in 6.1 seconds when all systems are working perfect and will hit a top speed of 150mpg easily.
A product demanded by those looking for the performance of a sports car but the practicality of a saloon car the E28 M5 was the first of many incarnations utilising this combination.
Handbuilt by a special team of BMWs finest technicians early models started life in BMWs original Preussenstrasse location near BMW AG headquarters in Munich until in late 1986 when production was moved to the newly opened BMW Motorsport headquarters in Garching. Only 187 RHD M5s were produced from 3/86 to 11/87 so finding an original unit in Malaysia is not going to be easy and then getting the owner to part with it will be another issue.
