Mini Cooper 2019 with ‘Union Jack’ influence
This is the 2019 Mini Cooper which was unveiled on Tuesday ahead of its formal debut at next week’s Detroit auto show. It comes draped in the Union Jack from head to tail.
The 2019 Mini Cooper lineup’s LED tailights now bear the iconic British flag. Otherwise, it’s nearly indistinguishable from last year’s model aside from minor revisions to the front and rear fascias, at least until you open the door. First, you’ll be greeted by a projection of Mini’s new, streamlined logo that’s also on the hood, tailgate, steering wheel, and instrument panel.
Inside, the 2019 Coopers in two-door, four-door, and convertible guise feature more trim customization options through the Mini Yours program, plus revised leather upholstery available in a new Malt Brown Chesterfield shade
Every model now offers a 6.5-inch colour touchscreen lifted from the MINI Countryman, plus Bluetooth. Drivers will still get the familiar BMW iDrive-like controller on the centre console, along with a new multifunction steering wheel.
A new touchscreen MINI navigation system is available further up the range, bringing new online connected services such as real-time traffic data. Wireless phone charging and extra USB ports also feature. Among a range of new app-based services is MINI Find Mate which is a tracking tool that can locate lost keys, bags or mobile phones.
The suspension, chassis and steering are unchanged, but the MINI One inherits a detuned version of the Cooper version’s 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine.
