Singapore puts 2 fast-charging electric taxis on trial. 200km on a 30 min charge

This is a program that Greentech Malaysia should be working on with Hyundai Malaysia and a local taxi company. Singaporean taxi company, Comfort Delgro has put 2 fast-charging electric taxis on trial. The Hyundai Iconiq taxis can travel more than 200km on a 30 min charge, making it perfect for local use. Also, going electric will reduce the cost of driving over the same distance by a third. Although these are not the first electric taxis on our roads, they are certainly the quickest to charge.

The Hyundai Iconic also comes with a bunch of new tech worth mentioning. Its smart regenerative braking system not only charges the battery while braking but also while decelerating and going down slopes.

New, state of the art safety features such as a lane keeping assist system, autonomous emergency braking system, smart cruise control and blind spot detection will keep the drivers and passengers safe.

ComfortDelGro Taxi CEO, Mr Ang Wei Neng, said: “We have been looking for a reliable, safe and faster charging electric vehicle for quite a while now. We wanted one that would offer our cabbies the shortest or fastest charging time because time is of essence to them. With the DC fast charger, this electric Hyundai Ioniq can be charged from zero to full in under 30 minutes while the cabby is taking a break. The new full electric Hyundai Ioniq is not only green, it is practical, friendly and provides substantial saving in fuel cost.”

With quick charging, lower operating costs and supreme safety features, we hope this trial is a success and we’ll see more of these taxis on our roads.
