Volkswagen Germany Issues A Strange Recall

Volkswagen (VW) AG has just issued a very strange recall… just one of the many issues in recent times but this recall is rather specific about which VW models, engines or components.

It is for a very special kind of vehicle. VW AG wants to buy back some pre-production VW models from the years 2006 to 2018. In total there are about 6,700 cars affected from several models.

In a letter to the owners, VW states that “the condition may not have met the current standard at the time of marketing”. Customers may contact a hotline and clarify the formalities. The letter says “Originally, the vehicles were not intended for sale. They were created in a pre-production, so they were built before the official start of production. The cars were exhibited at trade fairs, drove in the press fleet or were intended for internal testing. Many manufacturers sell such vehicles, usually with high discounts. However, before the VW models came on the market, they were not rebuilt to the usual standard”.

VW is currently contacting the owners of the Golf, Tiguan, UP!, Phaeton, Passat and CC models in Europe.
