Renault Megane R.S. Previewed: RM280K-RM300K

The latest Renault Megane R.S. will soon be coming to Malaysia through its official distributor, TC Euro Cars.

At an event earlier today, the vehicle was previewed in its 6-speed manual guise. Bookings are open for this particular model, which retails for RM279,888.

For the first time, the Megane R.S. will also be offered with an automatic gearbox. This 6-speed Efficient Dual Clutch (EDC) transmission will be introduced in Malaysia later. An estimated price tag of RM299,888 has been quoted.

Regardless of transmission, the new Megane R.S. is a very powerful, high capable hatchback. Its 1.8-litre 4 cylinder turbocharged petrol engine puts out an impressive 280PS and 390Nm of torque. All-wheel drive makes sure that power gets sent to the tarmac effectively.

But the Megane’s real party trick is its 4CONTROL all-wheel steering system. At low speeds, the rear wheels turn up to 2.7 degrees in the opposite direction of the front wheels for a tighter turning circle.

In Race mode, this can happen at speeds of up to 100km/h, allowing for tighter high-speed cornering. In other drive modes, this only happens below speeds of 60km/h. After that, they turn up to 1 degree in the same direction as the front wheels, virtually extending the wheelbase and giving it better high-speed stability.

Renault have also fitted hydraulic compression stops to all four shock absorbers. These are rally-inspired pieces of technology that put a shock absorber within the shock absorber and dissipate energy without transferring it to the wheel. This ensures the Megane R.S. has optimum road contact at all times.

All prices of vehicles stated are on-the-road inclusive of SST, without insurance. There will be an additional RM1,000 for Pearl White and RM8,000 for Orange Tonic and Liquid Yellow.

Test drives will be available at Renault’s Petaling Jaya showroom from August onwards (manual transmission only). Those interested in a test drive are able to make a request in advance via renault.com.my to avoid any disappointment.

The All-new Renault MEGANE R.S. comes with a three-year or 100,000km warranty (whichever comes first) and is supported by all 18 authorised Renault Service Centres in Peninsular Malaysia for customers’ convenience.
