Geely Boyue Pro Shows Just What the CKD X70 Could Be

New photos have surfaced showing a facelifted version of the Proton X70 Geely Boyue. Going by the emblems, it looks like this car will sport the ‘PRO’ moniker. If the X70 brings that here too, the naming conventions on the car would be even closer to a smartphone.

The new Boyue Pro looks to be a major facelift. We see completely redesigned panels, light clusters, rims, grille, the lot. Besides a trademark Boyue lines, this facelifted car looks almost nothing like the original.

From some frontal angles, you can see the influence modern Benz and Jaguar design has had on the Boyue Pro.

Yet this design is still has an original identity that pushes Geely’s design language while tying it to that signature Cosmos grille.

Things at the rear look a little more familiar. The housing follows a similar silhoutte as the predecessor, but takes on a more intricate internal and housing design. That internal layout in the rear light cluster seems to follow the trend set by the Geely Bin Rui, which was launched last year.

On the inside, lots of things seem to have changed. the gearknob’s now less rounded and more angular and abstract. Closer to the driver, you find a BMW-inspired button layout complete with a click-knob next to the electronic parking brake.

The flat-bottomed steering wheel looks very premium looking with a blacked-out Geely emblem rather than the blue-gold one on the standard car. Tan leather and brushed aluminium inlays seem to be what’s featured on our photos.

The infotainment system of course is the biggest talking point here. It’s clearly a lot larger than before and the layout of apps and widgets has maximised the space quite nicely. It’s a nice upgrade over what’s currently present on the X70, but it doesn’t look completely original.

Below that screen is what looks like flip switches. Nice touches all round. Looks like Geely are really going the way of the premium brand.

Under the hood of the Geely Boyue Pro will probably sit a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol (co-developed with Volvo Cars) and a 7-speed dual clutch automatic.

Will this end up being the locally-assembled version of the Proton X70, or was this never part of the deal between the two companies? Only time will tell.
