Volvo S60 2019 Model Sold Out Just Weeks After Launch
Just weeks from its launch, this all new S60 sports sedan is now sold out. All units were fully imported and now Malaysian buyers will have to take up the local assembled versions which are just as good as the units imported in from its factory in America.
So, why has the demand for this new Volvo S60 out weighed the order books for its immediate rivals, for example, the Volkswagen Arteon (estimated at RM290k) and Audi A5 Sportback (selling price is RM338,878) which has a similar target selling price.
Let’s start with its power delivery. This S60 has a total system output of 407 hp at 5,700 rpm and 640 Nm from 1,200 to 5,400 rpm. Thanks to an eight-speed automatic transmission and AWD, the sedan has the capability to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.4 seconds and reach a top speed of 250 km/h.
Then there is the increased awareness with Malaysians right now as Volvo Cars in Malaysia expands its reach with new showrooms opening up with full after sales service included.
Finally, the good looks and great reviews from across the globe. This S60 has got rave reviews from across all media platforms around the globe. It is the sports sedan to own right now and even the established German rivals are getting a little worried at its asking price against long list of specifications.
Electrifying hybrid powertrain
The T8 Twin Engine’s 11.8kWh battery provides an electric-only range of up to 36 miles, with CO2 emissions from just 39g/km. Fuel economy (on the WLTP combined cycle) is up to 176.5mpg.
The T8 Twin Engine uses a Volvo Drive-E petrol engine and an eight-speed automatic transmission.
S60 in context
The S60 brings all the dynamic ability, ground-breaking technology and striking Scandinavian design from the company’s latest models to the premium mid-size saloon segment.
It is built at Volvo’s new Charleston plant in South Carolina, USA, on Volvo’s SPA (Scalable Product Architecture) platform, which also underpins the award-winning S90, V60, V90, XC60 and XC90. It is the first modern Volvo to be sold without a diesel engine, signalling the company’s industry-leading commitment to electrification and a long-term future beyond the traditional combustion engine. As you’d expect from a Volvo, it also offers cutting-edge collision-avoidance and occupant-protection technology.
