BYD Launches The Best Ever EV Battery
BYD releases a battery with longer range and smaller size
Chinese electric vehicle battery manufacturer, BYD (Build Your Dreams), has developed a new battery that is supposed to offer more safety in the event of an accident and a longer driving range.
BYD who is based in Shenzhen, China, is not only a manufacturer of cars, buses and trains, but also one of the largest battery producers in the world. In addition to batteries, components for electronic products such as smartphones and computers are also part of the group’s large portfolio.
BYD has recently set up a new business unit under the name FinDreams. The aim of this new company is to sell components and technologies for electric cars to other electric vehicle (EV) manufacturers. BYD wants to establish itself as a supplier to the global electric vehicle automotive industry.
This is why BYD’s founder, Wang Chuna-Fu recently announced their all new “Blade Battery” (Pictured Below) which is a new generation of EV batteries. The energy storage should be more stable against external influences and thus minimize the risk of fire in the event of an accident. In tests, the battery was bombarded with nails. According to BYD, a conventional lithium battery would have reached temperatures of over 500 degrees under this stress. The “Blade Battery” only warmed up to 30 to 60 degrees.
In addition, the arrangement of the battery cells in the rechargeable battery should improve space utilization by 50 percent. With this technology, EV batteries can be made smaller to occupy less space or larger batteries could be used to offer longer driving range which has been in question by non EV adopters for some time now.
BYD’s Vice President He Long is the head of the new BYD subsidiary FinDreams, explains: “We are already in talks with a number of global electric vehicle manufacturers about “Blade Battery” and the initial response is very encouraging. FinDreams is divided into five divisions, each of which covers its own technological areas such as Battery, Powertrain and Technology.
As the first own product, the new top model from BYD Auto with the new battery is to come onto the market. Computer graphics were published by Han EV. In addition, it is revealed that the sedan should accelerate to 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds and have a range of 605 kilometers. The launch date of the Han EV is not known as yet.
BYD is a global player for some time now and has been active in supplying EV’s to many countries, however it is still not a well known brand to many Europeans and North Americans. The BYD Group’s electric buses are already on some European roads. The BYD e6 electric van has been running in some European countries and its popularity is growing. The new subsidiary FinDreams could create a large supplier for electric cars in China and new markets.
