0BMW 2000 Series 1970 Model For Sale In Malaysia
This is a very rare and unique example of a pristine condition 1970 BMW sedan
If you are a classic BMW fan you will probably be surprised to see a 2000 Series in this condition. Not many units were sold in Malaysia at the time when Mercedes-Benz was much more popular with rich Malaysians (from the tin mining boom) and so very very very few are still on the road today.
We have not seen one on the move for years. The best classic BMW we have seen and had the chance to drive was the BMW E12 at the 528i at the launch of the new 5 Series many years ago in Europe.
History
This car was imported from South Africa into Malaysia in 2016 and it is in mint condition as you can see from the pictures here. Even its radio is the original factory unit for BMW South Africa. This car looks ready to be put on show at a BMW museum.
The car was manufactured in 1970. Engine capacity is 1800cc. Let us share some history on this 1970 BMW 2000 as you probably never seen this version of this car before or if you have seen this car, not with this nose treatment and side lamps, right. Yes, the BMW 2000 Series that arrived in Malaysia all had round headlamps as there were all imported in from England by then Malaysian BMW importer, Arshad Motors.
This BMW 2000 Series is a South African spec’d model and this is why it has different headlamps.
Price
The owner is asking RM128,000 for this rare car and the price is not negotiable. Well, everything in Malaysia can be negotiated and we are sure if you are a serious buyer he might consider discussing the selling price with you. But do not expect a bug reduction as the owner is a classic car collector and he knows the value of this car around the globe.

BMW created an all-new car with an all-new engine for the small-sedan market during the 1960s and a total of 155,655 units were made and sold around the world.
How It Started
In 1959, BMW was on the brink of bankruptcy. Their Isetta vehicle had sold well for a period of time but it was quickly loosing ground to the VW Beetle. A vehicle that had similar features such as excellent fuel economy and practicality, but offered more room for passengers.
Harald and Herbert Quandt provided financial backing to BMW to produce a four-door car which came known to be Neue Klasse or ‘New Class’. This happened to be the savior for the struggling company. In 1962 the vehicle was debuted and dubbed the 1500. It featured a four-cylinder engine. In total, 24,000 of the 1500’s were produced.
The 1800 was introduced near the end of 1963. It had a four-cylinder, 1773cc engine that was capable of producing 90 horsepower. Variants such as the 1800 Ti and 1800 Ti/SA soon followed.
