Honda Has Built 30 MILLION Motorcycles In Vietnam

Last week, we covered just how productive Suzuki have been in India since leaving Malaysia. Today, we’re talking about another Japanese vehicle maker and their successes in another part of ASEAN – Honda. Specifically Honda in Vietnam. Since setting up for production there at the end of 1997, the company has built 30 million motorcycles!

The 30 millionth one was a ‘Winner X’. The hit their 10 million mark in 2011 and 20 million mark in 2016. Unlike in Malaysia, operations between Honda motorcycles and automobiles seems to be more streamlined in Vietnam, as Honda Vietnam produces both motorcycles and cars like the City and CR-V.

That being said, the attention is quite obviously skewed towards Vietnam’s thriving motorcycle market. Their capacity for bike production there is 2.5 million a year while car production is limited to just 23 thousand a year. Honda Malaysia have been able to produce upwards of 100,000 cars a year at their Pegoh plant in contrast. The operation in Pegoh is also equipped to assemble more car advanced car models, such as the City RS e:HEV.

Here’s the press release with more.

PRESS RELEASE

Honda Vietnam Co., Ltd. (Head office: Hanoi, Vinh Phuc Province, General Director: Keisuke Tsuruzono), a subsidiary of Honda in Vietnam, announced that it has reached a cumulative motorcycle production milestone of 30 million units.

The 30-millionth unit was a Winner X, representing not only a significant milestone for Honda’s motorcycle operations in Vietnam, but attests to the achievements of Honda’s business activities over many years in the country. Heading towards its next milestone, Honda Vietnam will continue to provide high quality products that exceed customer expectations, and continue being “a company that society wants to exist” in Vietnam.

Honda Vietnam was established in 1996 as a motorcycle manufacturing and sales company, and begun motorcycle production in December 1997. In order to better meet domestic customer demand, production and sales localization has progressed, with various facilities operating such as three motorcycle production factories and parts centers.
