The Toyota Corolla Cross has been selling better than expected in Malaysia as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to hamper jobs and business expansion in many areas.
Meanwhile, in Japan, there is a tuning and body styling company called Modellista who work closely with Toyota to provide added visual excitement to Toyota vehicles.
Toyota Corolla Cross gets heavy visual makeover from Modellista
Here comes a new aggressive look for the Corolla Cross and the designers at this styling house has given a notable dynamic makeover. This styling kit that comes from Japan at the hands of body kit specialists, Modellista is also on sale in Thailand from Toyota dealers and only one version is available for sale right now.
The Modellista kit applied to the Toyota Corolla Cross consists of a front spoiler attachment, side skirts and rear bumper attachment that houses a faux-diffuser. This look is rounded off by a set of smart looking 18-inch alloy wheels.
For the local Thai buyers this kit is being sold as an official accessory by Toyota Thailand for the Hybrid model only. Just 250 units will be sold, each of which will carry a three-year/100 000 km warranty.
No news yet on the arrival or the sale of this kit for Malaysian Corolla Cross buyers but we suggest you visit their only store in Japan where there are two version of this styling available for the Corolla Cross.
Meanwhile, in case you were wondering, the first batch of the Corolla Cross was sold out in Malaysia by the end of March 2021. This came as a surprise to many as the Corolla Cross was launched just a week earlier on the 25th of March at the height of the pandemic in Malaysia.
So, why was there a high demand for this new Toyota crossover? Let us start with its price. Its rivals are strong segment contenders with equally good equipment and features.
First there is the Mazda CX-30 which is priced from RM144,700 and the Chinese made Geely rebadged Proton X50 Highline which is priced at RM103,300. Meanwhile this new Toyota crossover is priced right in between at RM124,000.
The sold out first batch of the Corolla Cross was imported from Thailand and so quality standards with ASEAN assemblers are all 100 percent equal and the reason for local assembly in Malaysia is to take advantage of tax incentives from the Malaysian government and this is why the Corolla Cross pricing is rather attractive when you look at its long list of features and equipment.
Under the bonnet of this Corolla Cross is the same powertrain combination as in the current iteration of Corolla sedan. Meaning a 1.8-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder that outputs 139 PS and 172 Nm of torque, which is mated to a 7-speed Sequential Shiftmatic CVT that drives solely the front wheels.
UMW Toyota are also offering two Toyota Service Savers packages. These essentially bundle up your scheduled services into your final loan amount. A 5 year/100,000km package is priced at RM3,410 and a 3 year/60,000km package is priced at RM2,190.
