BMW Malaysia today introduced three new variants for the BMW X3, alongside one new variant for the BMW X4 in the country.

BMW X3 Performance

All three models are powered by the B48 2.0L 4-cylinder TwinPower Turbo petrol engine with an 8-speed automatic gearbox from ZF. However, each version is different.

The BMW X3 sDrive20i has the engine tuned to 184hp and 300Nm of torque and sends power only to the rear wheels, resulting in a 0-100km/h time of 8.2 seconds and a top speed of 215km/h. Not great, not terrible,

The BMW X3 xDrive30i has that same motor tuned up to 252hp and 350Nm of torque and sends all of that to all four wheels, allowing it to complete the century sprint in just 6.3 seconds and head all the way up to 240km/h.

The BMW X3 xDrive30e has the same engine output as the ’30i’, but adds an electric motor and 12kWh lithium ion battery to the mix. This actually slows the vehicle down in terms of top speed to just 210km/h but cuts the acceleration time to 6.1 seconds from 0-100km/h. However, it’s the only variant capable of all-electric driving, which it can do 50km of when fully charged and in ideal conditions.

All variants come with M Sport suspension with specific sprint and damper tuning.

The New Look

The BMW X3’s facelift brings very strong changes to the exterior appearance. Larger kidney grills are now conjoined at the centre. A new front apron and bumper now features vertical air intakes. The headlights are now a centimetre slimmer and feature full-LED technology as standard. Taillights now feature a new design reminiscent of the Arbiter sword from the Halo video game franchise. New 20″ alloy wheels have been fitted, along with larger tailpipes and ‘free-form’ exhaust tips.

The M Sport Package is also standard on all these variants. The upgrades from the M Sport Package include larger air intakes, specific front aprons, new colour choices, rims and interior trim finishers.

Inside, there’s a larger, touch-enabled 10.25″ Control Display with BMW Operating System 7, BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant, BMW Maps, and optional BMW Connected packages, new control elements beneath the display, zinc-plated elements in the air vents, sport seats, and leather upholstery. BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant can now open windows and adjust the AC with voice commands, finally catching up to the technology offered by Proton about 4 years ago.

Only the base model BMW X3 sDrive20i gets a analogue circular dials with a 5.1″ display in the instrument cluster. The other two variants get the fully-digital BMW Live Cockpit Professional set-up.

Driver Assistance and Options

The BMW X3 gets Lane Change Warning, Lane Departure Warning, Front Collision Warning with Brake intervention, Parking Assistant, Reversing Assistant as standard. The BMW X3 xDrive30e gets Active Park Distance Control, lateral parking aid, and Parking Assistant Plus with Parking Assist for end-on and parallel parking space.

All variants come in Alpine White, Brooklyn Grey, Phytonic Blue or Carbon Black exterior paint finishes. Interiors are all finished in Leather Vernasca Black with Blue stitching on the inside. With Alpine White and Carbon Black exteriors, the interior can be also optioned with Leather Vernasca Mokka.

All BMW X3 models come with a 5-year Unlimited Mileage Warranty with Free Scheduled Service Programme, BMW Roadside Assistance and Accident Hotline, BMW Group Loyalty+ Mobile App, BMW Privileges Card, BMW Services Online.
