All-New Mercedes-Benz C-Class Launched In Malaysia From RM288K

The all-new Mercedes-Benz C-Class is now available in Malaysia.

Mercedes-Benz Malaysia has launched the all-new W206 C-Class sedan in CBU form for the local market. Two variants are available upon launch, the C200 Avantgarde Line and the C300 AMG Line for RM288,334 and RM330,681 respectively.

Both models are considered mild hybrids as they come with an integrated starter generator which enables smoother engine start-stop in traffic and provides a small boost in power. The new C-Class brings the latest Sensual Purity design language to the compact executive segment and gives the 4 year old BMW 3 Series G20 model some serious competition.

While these are all CBU units with a 50% sales tax discount, the CKD variants are expected to only arrive in the 2nd half of 2022, when SST exemption is currently set to expire.

Powertrain

The C200 is equipped with a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine capable of 204 horsepower at 5,800 – 6,100 rpm and 300Nm of torque between 1,800 – 4,000 rpm. The electric motor supplements this with an additional 15kW and 200Nm of torque. 0-100km/h is achieved in 7.3 seconds with fuel consumption rated at 6.6L/100km.

The C300 comes powered by a 2.0L 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine with 258 horsepower at 5,800 rpm and 400Nm of torque between 2,000 – 3,200 rpm. The same 15kW and 200Nm electric motor is present on this engine. The century sprint in the C300 is completed in 6 seconds flat.

The transmission in both cars is a 9G Tronic automatic sending power to the rear wheels.

Design

Exterior

The new C-Class adopts a sportier, but still upmarket design with a short front overhang, a long rear overhang and a long wheelbase.

Power domes seen on the facelifted E-Class and new S-Class have found their way onto this new Benz sedan while the windscreen and passenger cell have been moved rearward for a classic cab-backward design.

For the first time, the C-Class has 2-piece taillights with one segment mounted to the boot lid.

The C200 comes with the Avantgarde Line exterior, including a radiator grille with the centrally-mounted three-pointed star, trim in high-sheen aluminium and chrome with 18″ 5-spoke wheels.

The C300 is equipped with an AMG Line exterior with the Mercedes-Benz pattern grille, 19″ AMG multi-spoke wheels.

Interior

The interior is divided into upper and lower sections with flattened round vents, a 12.3″ free standing driver display and an 11.9″ portrait-oriented infotainment display. Almost all functions are digitally-controlled through this new centre display and it even has a built-in fingerprint scanner to identify which driver is in the car to load the appropriate profile.

Three display styles are available (Discreet, Sporty and Classic) and three modes for the screens also exist (Navigation, Assistance and Service). Ambient lighting is standard on the new C-Class.
