Updated 2022 Mazda CX-8 Launched In Malaysia With 2.5L Petrol Turbo Option
The 2022 Mazda CX-8 is improved all around and now has a turbocharged petrol option.
The updated 2022 Mazda CX-8 has been launched today by Bermaz, bringing in a new 2.5L turbocharged petrol engine choice as the most expensive and powerful option. It’s also the only all-wheel drive version of the CX-8 now. Yes, that means the 2.2L turbo diesel variant is now front-wheel drive only despite delivering a mountain of torque.
For a full spec-by-spec breakdown, head to our previous article on the CX-8’s leaked brochure. Otherwise, here are other changes in brief.
All variants of the CX-8 now get GVC Plus, which improves high-speed cornering stability. They also get additional USB ports for the 3rd row of seats and a 7″ digital instrument cluster, 6-way powered seat for the front passenger, a handsfree powered tailgate and auto-folding mirrors. That’s quite an upgrade in standard equipment.
New for Mid and HIgh variants
Mid and High variants (which only come with the naturally-aspirated 2.5L petrol engine) also get upgraded with black leather seats, previously only being available with black fabric seats.
New for High and High Plus variants
The High and High Plus variants get a new grille design, LED signature headlamps, LED interior lamps, a wireless qi charger and wireless Apple CarPlay through the 8″ infotainment system. Deep red leather is the upholstery here.
New for High Plus variants
The range topping variants (available with all-three engine choices) now get Gunmetal finish on the front grille, a chrome bumper garnish, heated and ventilated front seats, enhanced i-Activesense ADAS (Adaptive Front-lighting System, High Beam Control, front and rear Smart Brake Support, Mazda Radar Cruise Control with stop and go).
The CX-8 continues to be locally-assembled alongside the CX-5 under the strict supervision of Mazda Malaysia to ensure quality parity with CBU Japan Mazdas. The CX-5 and CX-8 are exported from Malaysia to other markets in the region.
The new CX-8 comes in Soul Red Crystal, Machine Gray, Snowflake White Pearl, Deep Crystal Blue and Jet Black as before. However, there are now two additional colours: Platinum Quartz and Polymetal Gray.
OTR w/o insurance pricing for the CX-8 begins at RM177,674.40 for the 2.5G 2WD Mid Spec. The 2.5G 2WD High Spec costs RM183,452.40. The 2.5G 2WD High Plus spec costs RM197,553.40.
The Mazda CX-8 2.2L 2WD High Plus spec costs RM204,758.80.
The new flagship Mazda CX-8 2.5G Turbocharged AWD High Plus spec costs RM212,225.40.
All Mazda passenger car and SUV models come with a 5-year Manufacturer and 5-years free maintenance inclusive labour, parts and lubricants up to 100,000km.
