The New Peugeot 408: Unexpected From Every Angle

The Peugeot 408 fastback is a new breed of Peugeot cars

Peugeot calls the new 408 fastback unexpected, but is it really? Well, let’s find out. The French carmaker says their newest offering is a new breed of Peugeot vehicles and claims it is unexpected from every angle. Now since we have yet to drive the car we can’t comment on that yet, but otherwise, we think the car really is unexpected.

In a word, the new Peugeot 408 is fantastic. The car is different and that is what makes it unexpected. It is the first Peugeot model in history that incorporates the fastback body in the C-segment with a feline stance and a strong allure mixed with the engineering excellence of focusing on electrification. So yes, unexpected indeed.

Moreover, the first and most mesmerizing trait of the Peugeot 408 that instantly catches the eye is its silhouette. The fastback design and sharp lines fit the well balanced proportions of the car very well and make it look slightly bigger than it actually is. Its also features the brand’s new emblem which is a sight to behold.

On top of that, the signature fang shaped LED light element on the front, which is a typical Peugeot touch, gives the car a more sleek look as the car seems a bit wide otherwise . The taillights are also classic Peugeot with the three claw design and all this makes the car so much more desirable.

Additionally the new Peugeot 408 is 4,630mm long and has a 2,730mm wheelbase which makes the car very spacious especially in the rear cabin. The rear cabin offers 188mm of legroom while the boot offers a generous 536 litres so the car is overall much more spacious and practical than one would expect (Get it?).

Furthermore, the new Peugeot 408 will also be available in 6 colors with two of them being brand new, these are blue obsession and titane grey with four returning colors, elixir red, pearly white, artense grey and perla nera black. However, it is on the interior where the most unexpected changes lie.

The interior of the all new Peugeot 408 is equipped with the latest generation Peugeot i-cockpit with the instantly recognizable compact steering wheel design and a new centre console layout with what appears to be two touchscreens one on top of the other for infotainment and systems respectively with switches below for convenience.

What’s more, the Peugeot 408 is powered by a petrol engine that makes 130hp and is paired to an 8-speed EAT8 automatic gearbox and comes complete with a comprehensive driver assistance system that features adaptive cruise control long-range blind spot monitoring up to 75 metres, rear traffic alert and more.

Do you guys also wish that Peugeot would sell the new 408 here in Malaysia? I sure do, but I doubt the brand ever will.
