3rd Gen Hyundai i20 Has Been Given A Mild Refresh

The Hyundai i20 B-segment hatchback gets a mild refresh but it won’t come to Malaysia.

The Hyundai i20 may not be all that relevant to Malaysia, but it’s nice to see where this Korean compact is heading. The 3rd generation model was shown back in 2020 and 3 years later it is time for a minor facelift to keep things exciting.

As expected, the biggest changes to design both the front and rear bumpers. There’s also a new radiator grille design and a new Z-shaped taillight design. Altogether the i20 looks mildly more elegant and sporty thanks to these new elements. Apparently, air resistance has been lowered with this minor redesign. Hyundai have also created new 16″ and 17″ wheel designs.

Besides those big changes, there are also three new paint finishes available on the Hyundai i20 with this facelift as well as an optional black roof for a two-tone look. The three new colours are Lucid Lime Metallic, Lumen Grey Pearl and Meta Blue Pearl. Atlas White, Phantom Black Pearl, Aurora Grey Pearl, Dragon Red Pearl and Mangrove Green Pearl all make a return. With the new Lucid Lime exterior colour, a corresponding interior package is also included which includes sporty patterns in the cabin and lime-coloured stitching on the upholstery.

For the cabin, the 4.2″ digital instrument cluster has been now made standard. There are also some new software tweaks under the hood as well as USB type-C ports. Optionally, the i20 can still be upgraded to a dual 10.25″ screen set up with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

There’s also an optional wireless charger and Bluelink telematics available. The Hyundai i20 has also been updated with full LED interior lighting with multi-coloured ambient lighting included. There’s also a Bose Premium sound system available as an option.

Hyundai Smart Sense safety features have been upgraded. Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist now includes cyclists while Lane Following Assist keeps the vehicle in the current lane of travel. There’s also Rear Cross-Traffic Collision Assist, Blind Spot Collission-avoidance Assist and Navigation-based Smart Cruise Control.

Powering the Hyundai i20 is a 1.0 TGDi engine with either a 100PS or 120PS output. This can be paired to either a 7-speed dual clutch transmission or a 6-speed intelligent Manual Transmission.
