2024 BMW i5 With Illuminated Grille and Improved Ambient Lighting Teased
These features on the 2024 BMW i5 were unveiled ahead of its May 24 debut
We saw the BMW i5 being tested on harsh icy roads not too long ago and we knew then that the new all-electric version of the German automaker, BMW’s, executive sedan lineup, the 5 Series, which is confirmed to be called the BMW i5, and it appears that with the brand putting out two new teasers, we now also have a debut date for Europe.
So more specifically, BMW released two separate teaser trailers which say “The New i5. 100% electric, May 24th .” on their Official Instagram account linked here, with the first post teasing the new headlight design as well as new illuminated kidney grilles and the second post showing off the new ambient lighting on the dashboard.
Moreover, both teasers seem to include what sounds like the whirling of an electric motor and it is also safe to assume that the 24 May 2023 Europe debut date for the new 2024 BMW i5 should also see the car’s internal combustion engine (ICE) sibling, the new generation BMW 5 Series lineup, should also be unveiled at the same time.
While many details about the new BMW i5 are still unknown, we do know that it will be offered in two variants but Malaysia is likely to only be offered one, most likely, the base variant, which will be the BMW i5 eDrive40 which is powered by a single rear motor making 335hp and it will also likely come here in M Sport trim.
On top of that, the other variant of the all-new 2024 BMW i5 will be the BMW I5 M60 xDrive which will be powered by two motors making 590hp. One of these motors will be in the front and the other in the rear, which will technically make the car all-wheel drive as opposed to the base model which will be rear-wheel drive.
While BMW has yet to disclose any information on the electric range or battery capacity of the 2024 BMW i5, the brand is aiming for the base eDrive40 model to achieve about 475km. No doubt the more powerful M60 xDrive model will have a shorter range but we will not know until the brand unveils the official numbers.
While Europe will not have to wait much longer before the car debuts there, there is no official release date for Malaysia but it should be unveiled not too long after. Production of the all-new 2024 BMW i5 and its ICE versions is set to begin this summer, with sales expected to start somewhere in October.
Well, with this news, it should not be too long before we also receive news of the most potent version of the 5 series BMW builds, the iconic M5, and I can’t wait to see which variants also will debut alongside the 2024 BMW i5 electric vehicle (EV).
