Will The Lexus LBX Come To Malaysia To Challenge The Germans?

It seems like the Lexus LBX is the perfect rival to the BMW X1 and Audi Q2

These days with small SUVs being all the rage, it seems like German brands like BMW and Audi have a choke hold on the market segment with their offerings such as the X1 and Q2 models respectively but then again there is always room for competition and fierce competition has never stopped Japanese luxury brand, Lexus before. Will it stop the brand now?

Since its inception in 1989, Lexus has proudly pushed boundaries and upset the status quo so now we ask, with its new LBX compact SUV being announced to release in Europe, will we see it being sold here in Malaysia as well? And if so will this compact SUV with a big personality be able to become a sales success in the country?

Moreover, the all-new, hybrid Lexus LBX is the smallest product the brand has to offer and LBX stands for Lexus Breakthrough Crossover. An apt name considering the compact SUV embraces contemporary ideas in design and technology while maintaining the distinguishing Lexus qualities of luxury craftsmanship and Omotenashi hospitality.

The Lexus LBX is also a breakthrough for the brand in Europe as it marks the first time Europe has been the lead global region for the development of a new Lexus vehicle. The use of a three-letter name is also significant as the LFA supercar was previously the only model that has enjoyed this distinction.

The unique styling of the Lexus LBX also establishes a new identity for the brand with a new “Resolute Look” front design that reimagines the brand’s famous spindle grille. While the exterior dimensions are more compact than any other Lexus. Inside, the LBX emphasises driver-engagement with a focused cockpit based on Lexus’ Tazuna concept.

On top of that, the Lexus LBX measures 4,190mm long, 1,825mm wide and 1,545mm high and has a wheelbase of 2,580mm. The low-slung bonnet, gate-style rear roof spoiler and precise light cluster designs all enhance aerodynamic performance and also contribute to the efficiency, stability and responsive performance of the Lexus LBX.

The Lexus LBX is powered by a new generation, self-charging Lexus hybrid electric system featuring a lightweight 1.5-litre three-cylinder engine that makes 136hp of power and a peak torque of 185Nm so it is also very capable and powerful on the road as well. All this makes it the perfect alternative to any German compact SUV, so will it come to Malaysia and do just that?
