Two Malaysians Journey 15,000KM Across Africa In A Toyota Land Crusier

The Toyota Land Cruiser used in this journey was shipped from Port Klang

In a bid to fulfill their craving for adventure, two Malaysian women have challenged themselves to embark on a journey across the continent of Africa that will span about 15,000km on a Toyota Land Cruiser Troopy 4WD. While their journey is not yet complete, we are all rooting for them to complete it as soon as possible.

The two Malaysians embarking on this amazing journey are Zuraina Ismail, 56, and lyra Azhari, 47. The pair are currently at the Caprivi Strip, Namibia and started their journey at Cape Town, South Africa on 17 August 2023 on their Toyota Land Cruiser Troopy 4WD which was shipped by sea from Port Klang to Africa.

Moreover, the pair began this “Out in Africa” mission which will see them travelling across 14 countries in the Southern and Eastern parts of Africa starting from Cape Town with the pair currently already crossing 6 of these countries namely South Africa, Eswatini, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Lesotho and Namibia.

So far the two Malaysians in their Toyota Land Cruiser have already covered over 15,000km with the journey expected to end in Early April 2024 in Kenya. The pair will then set their sights on the continents of Europe and Asia where the duo will end their trip back home by land.

While speaking to Bernama, Zuraina mentioned that Iyra and her did not set a specific itinerary for this journey, but points of interest will guide location choice including current weather conditions, travel distance and campsites. The pair estimates costs including accommodation, food, oil, maintenance and entrance fees should not exceed RM10,000 per month.

On top of that, the pair seem to like taking their Toyota Land Cruiser to safaris and have, so far, visited the Mlilwane Nature Reserve, the Hilane Royal National Park in Eswatini, the Gonarezhou National Park in Zimbabwe as well as Etosha National Park in Namibia so the duo are certainly having fun along the way.

While things are not really very good for most Malaysians right now, this story really inspires us and it reminds us that no matter how bad things get, just like Sylvester Stallone said in the Rocky movies, “… it ain’t about how hard you can hit, its about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. That’s how winning is done!”
