Volkswagen Announces Takata Airbag Recall Campaign On 6,671 Vehicles

Affected Volkswagen vehicles have an airbag gas generator housing issue

Takata is back at it again and this time, it isn’t Honda that’s affected, oh no. This time around, the airbags affected Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia (VPCM). So the German automaker has officially announced that it is recalling these affected vehicles and customers are advised to check online if their car is affected. Let’s dive in.

Volkswagen

Volkswagen has officially announced a recall on some of its models produced between 2010 and 2014. A total of 6,671 vehicles have been identified to undergo inspection under the recall. This is a significant number and likely a very serious threat so if your car falls under the affected list, please get it checked immediately.

Moreover, the affected models are the sixth generation Volkswagen Golf GTI, Eos, Passat CC, Polo, Beetle and Vento models, all of which are equipped with a specific driver front airbag gas generator housing. Apparently, this is where the issue lies and it could lead to some very serious issues if not fixed.

So how do you know if your vehicle needs an inspection? Owners may visit this link here and key in their 17-digit VIN number which can be found at the bottom left of their Volkswagen vehicle’s windscreen. From there if your vehicle has been flagged for inspection, then you know what to do.

We already know what happened with the affected Honda models back when their Takata airbags were having issues and even resulted in the death of one owner. Of course, we all would prefer if this was avoided this time around, so let’s all do our part and ensure that every Volkswagen owner in Malaysia gets this news.

So, if you or anyone you know owns one of the aforementioned affected Volkswagen models, or just owns one of the brand’s vehicles in general, then be sure to share this news with them to ensure not just their own safety, but the safety of everyone on the road as we would not want this to cause an accident on the road.
