Another Reason To Buy A New Proton? Here is One, Superb Safety
Apparently build quality and safety in new Proton/Geely models is exceptional
We all know the age old debate online here in Malaysia, X brand from X country better than Malaysian car, X brand from X country car more fancy than Malaysian cars, however, just two days ago, a Proton X70 was involved in an accident that saw the SUV sustain minor damage while the other car looked completely totaled.
While foreign cars undoubtedly offer far more safety features and systems than local cars, we all know that all the safety kit in the world is useless when a crash inevitably does happen.
This is why in a bigger picture kind of way, I believe Proton cars, and by extension, Geely cars, are much safer. What is my example?
Well, recently a Proton X70 owner, who goes by Huslan Husin, posted on Facebook about an accident he was in where his SUV’s front bumper, headlight and fender were badly damaged but he and his wife survived with only minor injuries. He is also conveniently a member of the X70 owner club Malaysia.
Moreover, the car that I assume rammed into him (based on the images, note that I am only speculating here) which looks like either a certain local assembled sedan/hatchback is so badly damaged that its entire front bumper and even crumple zone are totalled, hence why it is hard to identify the car.
Of course, as more pictures surface and we see it from more angles, we will be able to identify the car but for now, let’s not make assumptions. Still, it should be noted that the X70 looked like it took almost no damage in contrast to the other car’s severe damage. This shows that Proton’s build quality is way up there.
To be very frank, this debate always irks me so much because foreign car fans always point out fancy ADAS features and ignore the bigger issue of poor build quality. Well, it is not my place to think for everyone, my duty as a journalist only compels me to give one the facts and the fact today is that Proton cars are very safe.
