Proton S70 Has Finally Launched In Malaysia From RM73,800

Proton’s long awaited return to the C-segment sedan market is official with the Proton S70

Yes, the Proton S70 is basically a rebadged Geely Emgrand, but in some ways, the differences our first national carmaker has made to the model are substantial enough to set it apart as almost a new car.

Well, now that we finally have the prices, let’s review. The base spec Proton S70 Executive goes for RM73,800, while the mid-spec premium variant goes for RM79,800, while the top spec flagship and flagship X variants go for RM89,800 and RM94,800 respectively. These are all on the road prices without insurance.

Moreover, we have already covered all the differences between each of the four variants of the Proton S70 so instead of going through that all over again, check out this link here to refresh your memory.

Proton markets the S70 as a C-segment sedan, the successor to the successful Preve, which replaced the Waja, but can this car actually stack up against other C-segment cars?

Well, let’s just say that the most common Japanese C-segment offerings we have in Malaysia today will challenge the Proton S70 in all metrics, but it does do well against the B-segment rivals instead.

Still, space is not really something any B-segment sedan buyer is prioritising. If you want space, get an SUV, and if you want sporty, get a sedan.

Still, I have been complaining for the longest time that I miss “the good old days” of the sedan being the dominant presence on any road and that SUVs and pickup trucks have replaced the humble sedan there so I suppose I should be grateful Proton is releasing this car. What do you guys think of the Proton S70, do you like it as much as I do?
