Audi Q6 e-tron EV Debuts Globally, Set For Malaysian Launch This Year

The Audi Q6 e-tron slots under the Q8 e-tron and is built on the same bones as the Macan EV.

Volkswagen Group set out to revolutionize their future upmarket electric vehicles when they started working on the Premium Platform Electric (PPE) architecture. The PPE debuted on the Porsche Macan EV earlier this year and now we’re getting a look at what the brand with the four rings can do with similar bones in the form of the Q6 e-tron.

PHS Automotive Malaysia, the local Audi steward, has confirmed plans to bring this model in THIS YEAR. So should you get excited for this upcoming premium electric vehicle? Here are the specs and some interesting facts.

1st Ingolstadt EV

This will be the first high-volume EV model to be produced at the famed Audi headquarters in Ingolstadt, Germany. For fans of the brand, there is a significance to this.

Fastest Charging

The underlying 800V technology of PPE allows for incredibly fast 270kW DC fast charging, enabling 10-80% charge ups in less than 21 minutes. When plugged into a 400 volt charging station, bank charging is enabled, which splits the battery into two for 135kW parallel charging. Even energy recuperation is impressive at 220kW max. Strangely, AC charging is limited to just 11kW.

Longest Range

While it’s common now to get electric vehicles that offer 500 km of range on the WLTP cycle, it’s rare that they breach the 600 km mark. Well, the Q6 e-tron does with 625 km from its 100kWh battery. This new lithium-ion battery design consists of 180 prismatic cells.

More Power, Baby

New, more powerful compact electric motors enable some impressive performance. The Q6 e-tron quattro is expected to have an output of 285kW, a 0-100km/h time of 5.9 seconds and a 210km/h top speed. The high-performance SQ6 e-tron will have ea 380kW output with a 4.3 second century sprint time and a top speed of 230km/h.

Brain Power Too

The Q6 etron features the newly-developed End-to-End Electronic Architecture (E3 1.2) which consists of 5 computers that control all the vehicle’s functions. It is said to be one of the most powerful automotive computing platforms yet and will help the Q6 e-tron stay relevant for longer.

Unparalleled Light Show

The Q6 e-tron established a new ‘e-tron’ design language plus debuts some interesting lighting technology too, including the 1st ever active digital light signature. Up front, you get 12 LED segments enabling 8 digital light signatures. Around back, 2nd generation OLED rear lights come with 360 segments that can generate a new image every 10 miliseconds. Integrated warning symbols allow these rear OLEDs to communicate warnings to other road users.

Slick Interior

The Audi Q6 e-tron will get a very high-tech interior. Just in terms of screens alone, it’s impressive. The digital instrument cluster, or virtual cockpit is 11.9″ wide. The centre MMI touch display for infotainment is 14.5″ across while the front passenger also gets their own 10.9″ display with Active Privacy Mode to reduce distraction.

Functionally, there’s a lot of room for people and cargo too. There’s a 526L boot that can be expanded to 1529L as well as a 64L frunk.
