Citroën Unveils Bold Basalt Vision SUV Coupé Concept for India and South America

The Citroën Basalt could be the way the brand re-enters Malaysia.

French automaker Citroën has revealed the first images of their striking new Basalt Vision concept vehicle – a compact SUV coupé aimed at young professionals and families in the Indian and South American markets. Set to join Citroën’s lineup in the second half of 2024, the Basalt Vision blends the style of a coupé with the versatility of an SUV and the space of a five-door sedan. The brand doesn’t currently have a presence in Malaysia, but that MAY be changing soon under Stellantis.

The Basalt Vision represents a fresh take on the compact SUV segment by combining multiple vehicle types into one sleek package. Its high ground clearance, muscular body cladding, and bold styling give it an unmistakable SUV presence. However, the sloping roofline and aerodynamic profile inject a dose of coupé sportiness.

Inside, the Basalt Vision offers the cabin space and practicality of a traditional five-door car. Citroën says the elevated ride height makes ingress and egress easier while still providing ample room for passengers front and rear. Protective skid plates and side cladding reinforce the rugged looks and capability.

The Basalt Vision concept previews the third model in Citroën’s “C-Cubed” programme aimed at driving growth in India and South America. Like the existing C3 hatchback and C3 Aircross SUV, the production Basalt will be based on a versatile “Smart Car” platform tailored specifically for those markets.

Citroën aims to create a strong, distinctive product lineup that provides value through unique design and ease of use. The brand also promises an enhanced ownership experience via streamlined services.

Citroën chose the “Basalt” name to evoke the resilience and durability of the volcanic rock it’s derived from. The automaker says the name reflects the intended toughness, endurance, and serenity of the concept. When it arrives in showrooms in late 2024, the production Citroën Basalt promises to be a unique entry that blends the capability of an SUV with the style of a coupé and the space of a sedan. This attractive mix could make it a compelling choice for urban families and young buyers in India and South America.
