MG Has Just Built An All-Electric Hypercar That ‘Defies The Land Speed Record’

This MG hypercar has a drag coefficient of 0.181 and a century sprint time of 1.9 seconds

The forthcoming 2024 Auto China show promises an array of eye-catching concept cars, with MG set to captivate audiences in Beijing with its EXE181 concept, a revolutionary electric hypercar featuring a distinctive single-seat monocoque design.

With its sleek, ground-hugging profile, this remarkable EV resembles the futuristic Vision Gran Turismo cars, sure to turn heads on the show floor. Distinguished by its teardrop shape, the EXE181 boasts an exceptionally low drag coefficient of 0.181, surpassing even renowned vehicles like the Volkswagen XL1.

Moreover, while some concepts have achieved even lower coefficients, the 2022 Mercedes Vision EQXX and the 2000 General Motors Precept come to mind, the MG EXE181 stands as a modern-day counterpart to the iconic 1959 MG concept, renowned for its groundbreaking aerodynamics.

Owned by China’s SAIC Motor, MG asserts that the EXE181 not only excels in aerodynamics but also in performance, boasting a staggering acceleration time of just 1.9 seconds to 100km/h from standstill. This feat is rivalled by only a select few supercars. While the Lucid Air Sapphire and Rimac Nevera have demonstrated slightly quicker accelerations, MG remains confident in the EXE181’s capabilities.

Details regarding top speed also remain undisclosed, yet MG hints at the EXE181’s potential to challenge land speed records, an ambition inspired by its predecessor, which achieved remarkable speeds with legendary racer Phill Hill at the helm. Hopefully the brand can reveal more information and even a release date sooner rather than later.

On top of that, on the inside, the MG EXE181’s interior embodies a futuristic aesthetic, featuring a centre-mounted seat reminiscent of the Lamborghini Egoista. Coupled with a racing harness and a sleek yoke incorporating a large screen, the cabin evokes a sense of unparalleled innovation and sophistication.

Speculation suggests the presence of four electric motors, hinting at an all-wheel-drive configuration and a combined output exceeding 1,000 horsepower. If this is true, then this car might just cripple sales of other hypercars globally.

While the prospect of a production model remains uncertain, the EXE181 undoubtedly serves as a showcase of MG’s visionary prowess and engineering excellence. As a breathtaking one-off creation, it commands attention and fuels speculation, securing its rightful place as a headline-grabbing sensation at the forefront of automotive innovation.
