Exterior Design Of The Year – Hyundai IONIQ 6 Max RWD
When it comes to exterior design, the Hyundai IONIQ 6 captured the hearts of our judges.
This was a category that had our judges debating for quite some time. Exterior design is mostly a question of styling but our VOTY judges also think about the pricing of the vehicle when we make our decision. Million Ringgit vehicles will always have an advantage with styling as they serve very niche uses and bolder, more impractical design choices can be made. However, when it comes to transporting a small family, there’s only so much one can do.
We also feel that the electric vehicle format allows for some drastic experimentation to be done as packaging is very different from ICE models and the potential customers tend to have different expectations and tastes from traditional car buyers. Our pick was therefore the Hyundai IONIQ 6.
The IONIQ 6 was all about drama with retro-flavoured shapes and futuristic details. Hyundai found a way to bring a level of drama that is only seen on supercars while still retaining its own identity with this model and we have to recognise the talent required for such a unique execution.
About VOTY 2024
The Allianz DSF.my Vehicle Of The Year (VOTY) Award ceremony is the first and only vehicle award event in Malaysia that does not hand out paid awards, nor does it charge winners or participating brands any fee whatsoever. Winners are allowed to use the VOTY event logo free of charge in all marketing materials. Event attendees are not even charged for their seat at the award presentation. All car manufacturers that operate in Malaysia are invited to participate free of charge. All they have to do is let our judges test drive their nominated vehicles.
The nominated vehicles must have been launched in Malaysia in the last 12 months and cannot be a localised minor facelift (body-kits, stickers, wheel upgrades, etc). All judging is independent and is put down to a vote before the winners are selected. Car manufacturers are not informed if they are winning or not before the event.
The judges for VOTY 2024 are Daniel Sherman Fernandez and Subhash Nair of dsf.my, Ross Hadi of gohedgostan.com and Joshua Chin of automacha.com.
