GAC AION EV SUV Gets RM16k Discount And Immediate Delivery

GAC AION competes directly with the Proton eMAS 7 EV and with this latest price reduction and immediate delivery it will be interesting to see the response

GAC’s EV sub-brand to Malaysia landed in Malaysia in May 2024 and it is fully-imported from China in ‘Elite’ and ‘Premium’ trims, with a launch price tag of RM119,800 and RM135,800 respectively.

Now with a Chinese New Year rebate of up to RM16k, this spacious and well equipped electric EV is competing directly with the eMAS 7 which is priced right now from RM105k.

So, which should you buy? Deliveries for the Proton eMAS 7 is about to start ….. not yet …… and many buyers who have placed their bookings are hoping to get it soon ….. very soon.

Meanwhile, the GAC AION Y Plus electric SUV can be delivered right away. Did you know that the Aion Y Plus uses GAC’s AEP 2.0 dedicated EV platform. There is a single front-mounted motor on this electric SUV, fed by a 63.2 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) type battery. Rated at 250 hp and 225 Nm of torque, the quoted century sprint time is a reasonable 8.5 seconds.

GAC says that it is capable of delivering up to an NEDC-rated impressive 490 km of driving range in this current powertrain configuration. As for charging, the Aion Y Plus currently accepts 6.6 KW AC (Type 2) and up to 80 kW DC fast-charging (CCS2) inputs.

Meanwhile, with the Proton eMAS 7, the PREMIUM variant has a 60.22kWh battery with a usable 410km of driving range and the PRIME variant uses a 49.52kWh battery with 345km of driving range.

For cabin technology, the GAC AION EV comes with a six-way power-adjustable driver seat, panoramic sunroof, keyless entry, a 6-speaker Bongiovi hi-fi audio system and automatic climate control with dedicated rear vents plus built-in PM2.5 air filter. A 10.25-inch digital instrumentation and 14.6-inch touchscreen infotainment are the two screens integrated into its minimalistic dashboard, with the latter supporting Apple CarPlay function.

The eMAS 7 Premium variant boasts a 16-speaker Flyme Audio System, including driver-side headrest-mounted speakers and WANOS Surround Sound but there is no Apple CarPlay. There is a 10.2-inch LCD fully digital instrument display and a 15.4-inch central infotainment touchscreen with 2.5K resolution display & CarBitLink smartphone integration. The driver gets a 6-way power-adjustable driver’s seat.
