Chery Tiggo Cross Previewed As Brand’s 1st Sub-RM100K Car, Hybrid Option

The Chery Tiggo Cross will attack the sub-RM100K segment with a hybrid option on the higher end.

Chery Malaysia burst onto the scene just a couple of years ago with the Omoda 5, Tiggo 8 Pro and then Tiggo 7 Pro but the brand has lost the spotlight to other rivals and its own sub-brands. Well, it looks like 2025 might be the year that they get the attention back as they’re planning to introduce their first sub-RM100,000 vehicle, the Chery Tiggo Cross.

Tiggo Cross

The Chery Tiggo Cross was previewed at the Malaysia Autoshow 2025 at a presentation that also focused heavily on Chery Super Hybrid (CSH) technology. CSH is already available on their sub-brand Jaecoo in the form of the Jaecoo J7 PHEV, but there are non plug-in versions of this hybrid technology and that’s what will be coming to Chery. The Chery Tiggo Cross at the lower end will be powered by the same 1.5 litre turbocharged four cylinder that’s under the hood of the Omoda 5. However there will also be a hybrid version of this powertrain.

The thinking is that the sub-RM100,000 price tag of the turbo will get the attention of the market, but the hybrid will be the ‘halo’ of the segment, as very few compact crossovers of this class offer a hybrid option at all. We’ll have to wait and see what the gap in price is between the turbo and the hybrid and where it sits amidst its Japanese rivals – Nissan, Toyota and Honda.

It’s likely that Chery is more focused on the Proton X50 as its main rival. Here’s how the two cars stack up in terms of dimensions:

Length4318mm4330mm
Width1830mm1800mm
Height1670mm1609mm

The Chery Tiggo Cross is also known as the the Chery Tiggo 4 in some markets. This will be the first departure from the naming scheme for Chery in Malaysia. Even the Omoda 5, which is transitioning away from Chery’s portfolio and into the new Omoda Jaecoo sub-brand, followed the same naming scheme as the rest of the portfolio.
