Stay safe while driving to avoid being in an accident
A tragic accident on the North-South Highway claimed the lives of two people and left 16 others injured late last night. The incident occurred at Kilometer 80.7 southbound near Ayer Hitam, Johor, involving a sightseeing bus and two lorries.
The crash is believed to have taken place at approximately 12:30 a.m., involving a sightseeing bus carrying 45 passengers, along with a tanker lorry and a tow truck. According to emergency responders, the two individuals who lost their lives were passengers on the bus. The drivers of the two lorries survived the collision.
Moreover, Ayer Hitam Fire and Rescue Station Operations Commander, Md Isa Masngun, reported that his team received a distress call at 12:44 a.m. Upon arrival, seven personnel were dispatched to the scene to conduct rescue operations. The responders discovered that the crash had involved three vehicles, a bus with 46 occupants including the driver, a tanker lorry and a tow truck.
“At the scene, we found two victims, both bus passengers, who were trapped in the wreckage. Sadly, they were pronounced dead at the scene by the medical team,” Md Isa said in a press statement. “Another 16 individuals, including the bus driver and several other passengers, sustained injuries of varying degrees.”
Emergency medical teams also quickly provided first aid to the injured before transporting them to nearby hospitals for further treatment. Fortunately, 28 of the bus passengers escaped the incident without injuries.
On top of that, the drivers of both lorries, a 42-year-old tow truck driver and a 33-year-old tanker lorry driver, survived the crash. Details regarding the cause of the accident are still under investigation, and authorities have not yet released any further information about the circumstances leading up to the collision.
The incident has raised concerns over road safety, especially involving heavy vehicles during late-night travel. As investigations continue, authorities are urging all motorists to exercise greater caution when driving, particularly along major highways at night.
