Tragic Accident In Pekan Claims Lives Of Husband And Wife, Three Children Injured

There have been way too many fatal accidents lately, it needs to stop

A tragic road accident on Jalan Kuantan–Segamat near Kampung Batu Lapan, Lepar, claimed the lives of a husband and wife while leaving their three children seriously injured. The incident occurred around 10:00 p.m. last night as the family was travelling from Kuantan towards Segamat.

The victims have been identified as Jamal Azizul Samat, 44, who was driving the car, and his wife Lizawati Abdullah, 41. The couple, residents of Felda Chini Timur 1, died at the scene due to the severity of the crash. We offer our condolences to the friends and family of the victims and hope the children make a speedy recovery.

Moreover, according to Pekan District Police Chief, Superintendent Mohd Zaidi Mat Zin, initial investigations suggest that the accident happened when Jamal attempted to overtake another vehicle. In the process, he reportedly lost control of the car, which then skidded into the opposite lane and collided head-on with an oncoming lorry.

“The impact of the collision caused both Jamal and Lizawati to be trapped in the driver and front passenger seats. They succumbed to their injuries at the scene.” said Mohd Zaidi in a media statement issued today. The couple’s three children, aged between six and 17, sustained serious injuries in the accident.

On top of that, they were quickly transported to Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital (HTAA) in Kuantan for emergency medical treatment. At the time of reporting, their conditions remain critical but stable. The 31-year-old lorry driver, along with two passengers who were travelling with him, escaped the incident with only minor injuries.

Authorities confirmed that they did not require extensive medical attention. The bodies of the deceased couple have been sent to Pekan Hospital for post-mortem examinations to aid in the ongoing investigation. Police have classified the case under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which pertains to reckless or dangerous driving resulting in death.

Superintendent Mohd Zaidi urged road users to exercise greater caution, especially when overtaking vehicles, as such actions can have devastating consequences. The tragic event has sent shockwaves through the local community, with many expressing condolences and support for the surviving children during this difficult time.
