Smart #5 Set for Malaysian Preview – Flagship EV SUV Coming Soon

The smart #5 will be launched in Malaysia soon, prepare for a spec preview.

Electric vehicle fans in Malaysia have something big to look forward to in the coming days. The smart #5, the brand’s largest and most advanced model yet, will be previewed for the local market, following its earlier debut in China and a left-hand-drive display at the Malaysia Auto Show 2025.

smart #5

Unlike the smaller smart #1 and #3, the new #5 is built on the PMA2+ platform (based on Geely’s SEA) with 800V electrical architecture, enabling ultra-fast charging capabilities. In China, the SUV is available in four powertrain options:

  • RWD – 340 PS (250 kW)
  • RWD – 363 PS (267 kW)
  • AWD – 587 PS (432 kW)
  • AWD – 646 PS (475 kW) – BRABUS performance version

Battery choices include a 76 kWh LFP unit for RWD models and a 100 kWh NMC pack for AWD versions. The top-range AWD variant boasts around 590 km WLTP range, while RWD models deliver up to 541 km WLTP. DC fast charging can take the battery from 10–80% in just 15 minutes.

Premium Tech and Space

Inside, the smart #5 blends cutting-edge tech with practical versatility. Expect dual 13-inch AMOLED displays, a 20-speaker Sennheiser Signature Sound System, 256-colour ambient lighting, and an interior that can transform into a king-size in-car suite thanks to fold-flat rear seats. Storage is equally generous, with 1,530 litres of cargo space, a 72-litre frunk, and 34 smart compartments for everyday convenience.

What to Expect for Malaysia

While it remains unconfirmed which variants will officially launch here, smart Malaysia has hinted that the BRABUS edition will be part of the lineup, alongside a Premium model. Right-hand-drive units are reportedly just months away, meaning the wait for official sales may be short.

The upcoming preview marks a major step in expanding smart’s EV portfolio in Malaysia, positioning the #5 as a premium, long-range alternative in the growing electric SUV segment. With its performance, space, and rapid charging, the #5 is shaping up to be one of the most compelling new EVs of 2025.
