Will You Convert Your Classic Car To An Electric Classic Car

Obviously it will have to be a low value classic car if you convert it into a an electric classic car

Converting a classic car to drive with an electric powertrain is done to improve performance with instant torque, lower running costs through cheaper electricity and less maintenance.

Plus, you might be looking to reduce environmental impact with zero emissions.

Other benefits might include the potential for a higher vehicle value in coming years, increased reliability as a daily driver and the ability to integrate modern features like USB ports and Bluetooth speakers while preserving the car’s classic style.

We all now know about the ‘Instant’ acceleration. Electric motors provide maximum torque from a standstill, offering faster and more responsive acceleration than a traditional combustion engine.

Yes, there is ‘Improved’ handling. A well-executed EV conversion which is a growing business in the UK and America right now can often result in a better balanced car with better weight distribution, leading to improved handling.

Yes, we understand there will be ‘Increased’ reliability. Fact, you will be getting all NEW components and we know that electric powertrains have significantly fewer moving parts than petrol or diesel engines, leading to less maintenance and greater long-term reliability.

But what about the cost? Well, it is said by EV manufacturers that all EV’s have lower running costs. Why? Well, electricity is cheaper than petrol right now.

EV Classic Car

Reduced emissions has been mentioned. But! The conversion eliminates tailpipe emissions, making the car more environmentally friendly when driving, but what about the minerals mined to make the EV battery and the motor. Then, you’re electricity to charge the EV battery, it is clean?

The conversion allows for the seamless integration of modern amenities such as Bluetooth, modern sound systems, and USB charging ports without detracting from the classic look.

So, whats the cost of an EV conversion? Well, conversion kits in England are available from around £10k, that fee often doesn’t include all components (motor, batteries, charger etc.) or even the cost of getting someone to fit it. This means it starts from RM60,000 even before you start including, installation fee, EV battery and electric motors purchase.

Meanwhile, the transition to owning an electric classic car represents more than just a technological evolution; it signifies a commitment to preserving automotive heritage while embracing a sustainable future, but without the engine note, drive character and the smell of petrol ….. why bother? Plus, lets not forget the loss of the ‘classic car’ status and the possible future value.

Interestingly, the Malaysian Road Transport department for now does NOT allow EV conversions for petrol or diesel powered cars, old or even classic.

More specifically, the Section 6(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 states that it is unlawful to use a motor vehicle which ‘does not comply with the rules as to construction, weight, equipment, use and age applicable to the class or description of motor vehicle to which such motor vehicle belongs.’ Or to put it in simpler terms, if a car was not originally an EV, no one can actually make it identify as one.
