Volkswagen Tayron SUV Launched For Just RM189,890 Only

Volkswagen Unveils All New SUV Called Tayron in Malaysia

The VW Tiguan is one of the most successful Volkswagen models in the world today. More than 7.6 million buyers have chosen the compact SUV since its global debut in 2007 and Malaysians have seen 3 generations on sale in the last 2 decades.

Now comes a brand new SUV that sits in between the Tiguan and the luxury Touareg and it is called the Tayron. Meanwhile, did you know that this SUV is locally assembled at the Volkswagen plant in Pekan and here is why the selling price is so attractive and very close to rivals from new automotive brands.

The Tayron is available in two distinct variants: the sophisticated Elegance with refined comfort and advanced technology, and the performance-driven R-Line featuring dynamic sportiness and a strong road presence. The recommended retail price for the Elegance is RM189,890, while the R-Line is currently available for preview only with an estimated price range of RM259,000 and RM269,000.

Using a new drivetrain, it delivers 150 PS mild hybrid (eTSI) with 48 V belt-driven starter-alternator and Active Cylinder Management (ACTplus). During braking, kinetic energy is recuperated via an alternator and stored in a separate 48 V battery. The Tayron uses this energy to switch off the high-tech turbocharged petrol engine in deceleration phases and on downhill slopes, thus helping to save fuel. The 48 V batteries supply all systems with energy, also when the combustion engine is deactivated. In addition, the 48 V system optimises the vehicle’s performance while driving off thanks to an electric boost function; in this case, the alternator takes on the role of electric drive motor.

The ACTplus works like this. Two of the engine’s four cylinders switch off as often as possible, depending on the operating situation at low and medium loads and speeds. Efficiency increases in the active cylinders, while the passive cylinders run almost loss-free.

Working with the engine is a seven-speed DSG transmission and Volkswagen Dynamic Chassis Control Pro (DCC Pro), which automatically adapts the suspension to changing road conditions for an ideal balance of comfort, stability and driving confidence.

The large, sculptured bonnet is heavily contoured to the outer edges. At the top, the silhouette is characterised by the long roof line. Like the front, the rear features striking light designs that stylishly complement the bumpers.

Precise lines and narrow body gaps emphasise the Tayron’s silhouette as a high-quality and extremely robust SUV. With each variant featuring its own distinctive styling while staying true to Volkswagen’s design identity.
