15 Dead In Gerik Accident Involving UPSI Bus Full Of Students And Perodua Alza

What devastating news of an accident early this morning that has claimed the lives of 15 individuals following a collision between a bus transporting students from Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) and a Perodua Alza multi-purpose vehicle (MPV).

The incident occurred on Jalan Raya Timur-Barat (JRTB), near Tasik Banding, Gerik, at approximately 1:10 a.m.

Authorities were alerted when Gerik Hospital received a distress call reporting a high-impact collision. Emergency response teams were swiftly dispatched to the location. A unit from the Gerik Fire and Rescue Station, consisting of one officer and three personnel, arrived on the scene at around 2:11 a.m. 

Moreover, they found the bus overturned, the aftermath of a violent crash with the Perodua Alza. Initial reports indicate that the bus was transporting a group of students from UPSI when the collision occurred.

The impact was severe, resulting in multiple fatalities at the scene. Among the injured were two female victims, one suffering a broken arm and the other, a head injury.

Both were rushed to Gerik Hospital at approximately 2:28a.m. and were reported to have arrived there roughly an hour later.

As news of the tragedy spread, UPSI issued a message of support and solidarity on its official Facebook page. The university extended its prayers and well wishes to the students involved, expressing hope that all related matters would be resolved smoothly.

On top of that, the post read, “Hopefully, all matters will be made easier for the students of the Sultan Idris Education University who were involved in a road accident early this morning.” Authorities have not yet released the identities of the deceased as they continue to notify next of kin and investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident. 

Emergency services remain on-site, and further updates are expected as investigations proceed. The tragic loss has shocked the local community and the UPSI family, with many expressing condolences and grief over the lives lost in the accident

The university has not yet confirmed whether it will be offering counseling or support services for the affected students and their families, but an announcement is expected soon.
