Mercedes-Benz CLA Shooting Brake Is The First EV Wagon From Benz

Mercedes-Benz Reveals CLA Shooting Brake – Its First-Ever Electric Wagon

Mercedes-Benz has taken the wraps off the all-new CLA Shooting Brake, marking the brand’s first-ever electric estate vehicle. Based on the recently revealed CLA sedan, this stylish EV wagon brings together sleek design, electric mobility, and the kind of versatility estate buyers love. With its debut, the CLA Shooting Brake not only expands Mercedes-Benz’s new EV family.

Slated for a European launch in March 2026, the CLA Shooting Brake delivers up to 761 km of WLTP range and supports ultra-fast charging that can add up to 310 km of range in just 10 minutes. But beyond performance, it’s practicality that steals the spotlight — with 455 to 1,290 litres of boot space (plus a 101-litre frunk), 1,800 kg towing capacity, roof rails, and a new illuminated panoramic roof with a starlit sky effect.

For Malaysia, this electric estate arrives at an interesting time. Fully electric vehicles are exempt from import and excise duties until the end of 2025, but the CLA Shooting Brake won’t be ready for export by that time. So we unfortunately won’t be seeing a tax free electric Benz wagon this year.

There’s still hope though, the brand already sells the EQA, EQB, EQE, and EQS in Malaysia, the CLA Shooting Brake could further strengthen its EV portfolio with something unique: a premium electric wagon locally assembled in small numbers.

But should they bring it in? The answer depends on consumer demand. Wagons are a niche segment here, often overshadowed by SUVs. However, with rising interest in EVs and a growing appreciation for versatile premium models, the CLA Shooting Brake could attract a specific, affluent group seeking both performance and practicality — especially those bored of crossovers.

If positioned well and priced competitively, the CLA Shooting Brake could carve out a small but loyal following in Malaysia.
