BYD Atto 2 arrives in Malaysia ahead of the Proton e.MAS 5.
It is now Q3 2025 and one of the most important vehicle launches of the year has rolled around in the form of the BYD Atto 2. Why is this small crossover so important? Well because this is exactly the sort of electric vehicle (EV) that will compete against Proton’s upcoming e.MAS 5 and Perodua’s yet-to-be-revealed EV too. The Atto 2’s launch will set the tone for this segment, given BYD’s current dominance as the most popular non-national EV brand in Malaysia.

For further context, the BYD Atto 2 sits between the Dolphin and the popular Atto 3 in terms of its footprint.

Here’s how it compares in percentage terms:
Compared to BYD Dolphin
- Length: +0.47%
- Width: +3.39%
- Height: +6.69%
- Wheelbase: -2.96% (shorter)
Compared to BYD Atto 3
- Length: -3.25% (shorter)
- Width: -2.40% (narrower)
- Height: +3.72%
- Wheelbase: -3.68% (shorter)
So not exactly in between the two models except in length and width while somehow having the shortest wheelbase of the three and being the tallest too.

For the Malaysian market, the Atto 2 powertrain will consist of a front-mounted 177PS/290Nm motor and a 51.1kWh battery good for about 350km of range on the WLTP cycle or 410km on the more generous NEDC. The Atto 2 does the century sprint in a claimed 7.9 seconds. Charging speed isn’t anything special at 7kW AC and 82kW DC.

In terms of equipment, the BYD Atto 2 has a 12.8″ rotating display with support for wireless Android Auto and Apple Carplay. You also get a wireless charging pad, synthetic leather seats, and ventilated front seats. The EV also gets ADAS features including Forward Collision Warning, Emergency Braking, Adaptive Cruise Control and more, 6 airbags, and a 360-degree parking monitor. With only one specification to choose from, the only rim size from the factory is 17″.

The BYD Atto 2 is available in Ski White, Breeze Green and Harbour Grey. The only interior colour option is all-black. An Easy Ownership Package is offered to the first 800 customers and this package is estimated to be worth RM13,500.
