2025 Proton X50 Facelift Officially Launched From RM89,800

The Proton X50 facelift arrives in Malaysia, here’s what’s new.

The highly anticipated 2025 Proton X50 facelift has finally made its debut, and it brings a host of upgrades to Malaysia’s best-selling B-segment SUV. More than just a cosmetic refresh, the facelift introduces a new engine, cutting-edge tech, and enhanced safety features. Here’s a full breakdown of what’s new across the Executive, Premium, and Flagship variants.

New Engine, Improved Performance

All variants of the X50 facelift now share the same 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder direct-injection engine, known as the 1.5TD i-GT. This new powertrain replaces the previous mix of three-cylinder engines and delivers 181 PS and 290 Nm of torque, paired to a 7-speed wet dual-clutch transmission. The setup enables the SUV to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in just 7.6 seconds, while offering up to 4.7% better fuel efficiency than before.

Drive modes now include Eco, Comfort, Sport, and a new Adaptive mode that automatically adjusts performance based on your driving style. The engine also uses a timing chain instead of a belt.

Exterior & Design Updates

The X50 facelift adopts a bold new look inspired by the latest Geely Binyue L, featuring:

  • New LED headlights with three-stripe DRL eyebrows
  • Full-width LED taillight bar
  • Redesigned front grille with Proton’s songket motif
  • Updated bumpers and sportier side skirts
  • Retained quad exhaust tips for a performance-focused appearance

Color choices now include Teal Bayou Green, Jet Grey, Snow White, Armour Silver, and Passion Red. Unfortunately, Ocean Blue and Citric Orange have been dropped from the palette.

Interior: Bigger Screens & Smarter Tech

Inside, the cabin sees a major overhaul with a massive 14.6-inch infotainment display and an 8.88-inch digital instrument cluster. The system runs on Android 10, boasts Full HD resolution, and supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto from day one—a first for Proton.

Additional interior highlights include:

  • New minimalist dashboard with column-mounted gear selector
  • “Hi Proton” voice assistant with Bahasa Malaysia support and multi-command function
  • Proton Link 2.0 app for remote functions like engine start, climate control, and vehicle tracking

Storage is improved with a dual-level center console offering 10 litres of space, while the wireless charging pad is now standard on the Flagship variant.
