The Chery Omoda 5 will get a massive upgrade and a name change very soon in Malaysia.
Chery Malaysia has announced that the public can now register their interest in the new Chery O5 SUV, ahead of its official reveal later this month. It was launched here as the Chery Omoda 5, but now Omoda is part of Omoda Jaecoo and so a re-branding needs to happen to give the model its place in the Chery line-up. For now, they’ll refer to it as the 05, but this may change at launch. As one of the brand’s most recognisable global models, the O5 has earned fans worldwide for its futuristic styling, dynamic performance, and advanced safety features. Now, the new generation O5 is set to raise the bar further with bold design updates, independent rear suspension and a 6-speed dual clutch automatic transmission.
Striking Design Meets Everyday Comfort
On the outside, the new Chery O5 makes an immediate impression with 18-inch alloy rims. We’re not sure if they’ll change the design from the outgoing model, which featured red painted highlights on the upper tier variant.
Inside, the SUV welcomes passengers with plush faux leather seats equipped with front ventilation, adding both luxury and comfort. Everyday practicality is elevated by dual-zone climate control and a wireless charger, making modern driving hassle-free.
Tech-savvy drivers will appreciate the O5’s massive 20.5-inch integrated dual screen, offering seamless connectivity via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. This setup provides a connected, intuitive experience for both driver and passengers.
Safety remains a top priority with six airbags, ADAS Level 2 driver assistance features, and an innovative 540° camera system, giving drivers unprecedented visibility and confidence on the road. These seem like the same features that were found before, but they’re still pretty impressive nonetheless
Powering the Chery O5 is a 1.5T turbocharged engine paired with a 6-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT). This combination ensures responsive performance and efficient driving, perfectly matching the SUV’s dynamic design. Underneath, a multi-link rear suspension ensures that every drive feels stable, smooth, and comfortable, whether in the city or on highways.
