The Peugeot E-408 might not be something Malaysians expect to see here.
Peugeot has expanded its electric vehicle lineup in Europe with the unveiling of the all-new Peugeot E-408. While the car has already generated strong interest in its home market, the big question for Malaysian buyers is whether Stellantis will introduce this new EV here.

The Peugeot E-408 sets itself apart with its fastback silhouette, which combines SUV-like ground clearance with the sleek, coupe-inspired roofline that modern buyers crave. We’ve seen this look before on the petrol-powered 408, but it would work just as well on an EV. Measuring just over 4.6 metres in length, the E-408 offers a commanding road presence while remaining agile enough for urban driving.

Under the hood, the E-408 is powered by a 54 kWh battery paired with a 156 hp electric motor. This setup delivers a claimed range of up to 453 km on the WLTP cycle, making it competitive with other mid-size electric SUVs on the market. Fast charging is supported at up to 100 kW, allowing the battery to recharge from 20% to 80% in under 30 minutes. For everyday charging, Peugeot offers an 11 kW onboard charger as standard.

Inside, the E-408 features the latest evolution of Peugeot’s i-Cockpit® design. A 21-inch panoramic display integrates driver information and infotainment functions, while customizable ambient lighting and premium trim materials create a modern, welcoming cabin environment. As with other Peugeot models, the emphasis is on combining technology with driver-focused ergonomics.

For Malaysian buyers, the appeal of the Peugeot E-408 is there. With its distinctive styling, practical range, and premium interior, it could become an attractive option in the growing EV segment. However, Stellantis Malaysia has yet to confirm any plans to bring the model here. Given the rising demand for electric vehicles and the arrival of competitors like BYD, Tesla, and smart, it would be a missed opportunity if Peugeot sits this one out. Peugeot also has the advantage of local-assembly operations that are all set up and ready to go for when CBU EV incentives expire.

Until then, Malaysian EV fans will have to wait and see whether the Peugeot E-408 makes its way to local showrooms — or remains a distant European exclusive.
