The Roar of Silence: Ferrari Unveils Elettrica, Its 1000 HP Electric Future

Ferrari has revealed the proprietary, F1-derived technology and 880V architecture that will power its hotly anticipated first all-electric car, the Elettrica.

In a significant milestone for the luxury automotive industry, Ferrari recently showcased the production-ready chassis and inner workings of its maiden all-electric model, the Ferrari Elettrica, at its Maranello headquarters. This unveiling signals the Italian sportscar maker’s dedicated, though cautious, step into the full-EV era, targeting a generation of wealthy younger buyers keen on electric performance.

The new four-door, four-plus seat luxury EV is expected to deliver a colossal experience worthy of the Prancing Horse badge. Set for a global premiere next year, the Elettrica boasts staggering preliminary performance figures: a top speed of 310 km/h (193 mph), a driving range exceeding 530 km, and a 0-100 km/h sprint time of just 2.5 seconds, thanks to a quad-motor setup delivering over 1,000 cv (horsepower) in boost mode.

F1-Derived Chassis and Powertrain Technology

To ensure the Elettrica provides the authentic Ferrari “driving thrill,” the marque developed a bespoke, in-house platform. The advanced Elettrica chassis and bodyshell are engineered using 75% recycled aluminum, contributing to a substantial reduction in CO2 emissions per vehicle. Key to its dynamic performance is the integrated, 122 kWh, 880V battery pack, which is fully recessed into the floorpan to lower the center of gravity by an astonishing 80 mm compared to an equivalent combustion engine model.

The advanced powertrain features proprietary electric motors with F1-derived Halbach array rotors, enabling high rotational speeds (up to 30,000 RPM at the front axle) and exceptional power density. The two electric axles utilize a combined 830 kW, with the rear-biased e-axle delivering a staggering 8,000 Nm of torque to the wheels in Performance Launch mode. Furthermore, its 880V architecture allows for fast-charging speeds up to 350 kW.

The Future Sound of Maranello

Perhaps the most defining feature for traditionalists is the Elettrica’s acoustic engineering. Rather than faking engine noise, Ferrari has designed a sophisticated sound system to amplify the actual vibrations of the electric powertrain, creating a distinctly authentic electric Ferrari soundtrack. This commitment to the emotional experience is crucial for a brand competing not just on performance, but on feeling, especially against rivals like the Tesla Roadster, which also promises immense speed.

While Ferrari progresses, competitors like Lamborghini have delayed their first EV until 2029, citing a lack of market readiness. Ferrari is aiming for EVs to constitute 20% of its lineup by 2030, a revised but focused target. On a much smaller scale in the electric vehicle market, the iconic Italian manufacturer Vespa also offers an all-electric mobility solution in the form of the Elettrica scooter. The Ferrari Elettrica, expected to cost at least €500,000, confirms that Ferrari believes the high-performance electric segment is ready for the Prancing Horse.
